Some water in the ocean is cold and some is hot. Where would your team expect to find the coldest water or just plain cold water? Where would the team expect to find warm waters? Do hot and cold water mix? Check it out in the ship's lab.

Preliminary Activity

You'll need the following supplies:

• ice water colored with blue food coloring
  
• hot water colored with red food coloring
  
• Something to measure with: ruler or tape
  
• A permanent marker
  
• A large clear straw
  
• plastic cups
