OCEANWORLD ALUMNI
Margaret Hammer
Margaret Hammer, now Dr. Margaret Hammer, was on the orginal founding Ocean World team.
Her contributions are what have shaped the site since the begining, as she
is responsible for the vast majority of the content here. She recently completed
PhD requirements in Educational Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis
in science, and is now teaching college Educational Methods at Sam Houston
State University in Huntsville. She received her Masters Degree in EDCI from
TAMU (Phi Theta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi) in 1991 and her Bachelors Degree
in Education from Sam Houston State University (Alpha Chi and Phi Theta Kappa),
in Huntsville, TX, in 1980. She also received an Associate of Arts Degree
from North Harris College (Phi Theta Kappa), in Houston, TX, in 1976. She
was the 1995 Elementary Teacher of the Year for Aldine ISD in Houston, where
she has taught 5th and 6th grade science for 17 years. She also received from
President Bill Clinton the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and
Mathematics Teaching in 1996. Margaret's daily presence on the team and motherly
caring for its members will be sorely missed.
Michelle Arango
Michelle Arango is a senior majoring in Ocean Engineering at Texas
A&M
University. When she graduates in spring 2000, she will stay in the U.S to
work and achieve a Master's degree. She is orginally from Panama. She is working
on our up-coming real-time data sites and curriculum. This summer 2000, she
went to Paris, France, with the Engineering Study Abroad Program and studied
"Material Science" and "Mechanics of Materials" with
emphasis on European structures.
Prashanti Govindu
Prashanti Govindu is a graduate student in Electrical
Engineering at Texas A&M Univerisity. She is originally from Southern
India. Graduating in Spring 2001, she now works for Intel in their chip
design
group in California.
Brent Porter
Brent Porter served two years as web master for Ocean World. He received
his Master of Geosciences Degree from Texas A&M Unversity in May 2000
and is presently working for the Texas Natural Resources Information Systems.
Brent earned
his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Houston
in December of 1995. He was previously at North Harris Community College
working as a
tutor for visually impaired students taking college credits. He is interested
in devising activities and information suitable for educating students
about
oceanography.
Jon Reisch
Jon Reisch, who graduated with a Bachelor's of Environmental Design in
May 2002 from Texas A&M University, is OceanWorld's primary webmaster,
a position he has held since inheriting it from Brent Porter in 2000. In
the time that
Jon has overseen the site, OceanWorld has undergone several complete
redesigns, bringing it up to date with a friendlier user interface, Javascript
interactivity,
CSS and DHTML.
Jon will begin his graduate studies this fall with Texas A&M's highly
respected Visualization Sciences program. The Viz Lab is one of the top
programs
in the country for 3D animation, visual effects, and high-end computer
graphics. When not working on websites or researching computer graphics,
Jon can be
seen and heard playing his guitar around town, and was until recently
the lead guitarist and songwriter for his band KICKSTAND.
Samantha Rohr
Samantha Rohr, now a very sucessful and respected
teacher, was one of the original Ocean World crew. Along with Margaret
Hammer and Dr. Stewart, she helped lay the foundation for Ocean World with little more than
a primitive HTML editor. She recieved her Master's Degree in Educational
Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in science. In May of 1997, Sam earned her
Bachelors Degree in Education with an emphasis in Mathematics. She is very
interested in the recent developments in educational technology and their
implementations in the classroom.
Bonnie Young
Bonnie completed her Bachelor's of Science in Geology
at Texas A&M University. After long deliberation, she decided that
she would like to change the world and become a teacher. Bonnie will
complete
her Master's of Education in July of 2002, at which point she will be
moving to Garland, TX, just outside of Dallas, to begin her new job teaching
Physics!

in Mathematics at Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, VA. Currently
she is spending her Junior year abroad at the University of Reading, England.
She worked here at Ocean World summer 2000 as a jack-of-all-trades, researching
oceanography and adding to the site as well as restructuring the pages and
averting crises. Upon completion of her degree, Miranda intends to attend
graduate school in Physics or Mathematics.
